I first read about her like 2 years ago in one of my English Glamour magazines. Katie Piper was a successful model and television presenter in Britain before that terrible thing happened to her. Her story is shocking, but it's instructive as well...
She met a man, whose name is Daniel, via Facebook in 2008.
Daniel was crazy about the girl, he gave several gifts to her and of course Katie really liked it. 2 weeks later everything changed. They were in a shoe store when suddenly Daniel began to shout at the seller. Then Katie realized that something was wrong with the guy. After this he asked her to stay in hotel in Bayswater. As the next day she had a conference there, Katie said yes. 
They had a pleasant dinner together and it seemed that everything was alright. Later in the hotel room, Daniel held her captive, beat and raped her as well. In one moment  he said he loved her but in another he cursed Katie. The blood, leaking from her head, covered everything. Katie advised that they should somehow clean away the clues as  if the cleaners notice it, they will call the police. After that she was able to escape.
She didn't tell the truth neither in the hospital, nor to her family. Daniel kept calling her but Katie didn't want to talk to him, and didn't move out of the house as well..Once Daniel told her that he wrote an e-mail for her and she must read it. Probably he found out somehow that the Internet connection didn't work well at Katie's house so he used the e-mail as a trick to lure her from the house. While she was  going to an internet café, she talked with Daniel on the phone continuously. He asked Katie what she was wearing and as Katie was very exhausted she answered the question. Since the guy knew what she was wearing, he could easily identify his victim. When Katie got out of the car she saw a man going towards her with a glass in his hand. She thought he was a beggar and she began searching for some money in her bag. But the man was not a beggar, but Daniel's accomplice. The guy threw sulphuric acid in her face. The girl felt that her skin and her clothes are immediately burned "down".
The doctors didn't know what made such a huge injury so they put her in a protective clothing which was like a dead bag. The sulphuric acid bitten her esophagus and blinded her in one eye. She was suffering and one day she handed a note to her mother and the note said: kill me! I can imagine what it feels like for a mother...
She had 34 operations in 18 months. First the surgeons removed all the skin from her face and then replaced it with a material made of collagen. As part of her care she was treated at a clinic in southern France. The treatment she received there, was designed to break down scar tissue, and prevent skin contraction.
Following the acid attack, Katie moved back to her parents' house. She left the house very rarely and if she left it happened that the ppl laughed at her. That's why she ashamed her appearance.
She's feeling so much better now and filmed a documentary on the whole story in order to call the people's attention. The message of the documentary was about Katie's own experiences, family, and not judging people by their appearance.
Both Daniel and his accomplice were arrested and are serving prison sentences for their crimes.
